Reimagined Carmel Cottage

Noted during the design review process as “the successful reimagining of a Carmel Cottage,” the spacious feel of this new home belies its modest 1,927 square feet. Innovative design resulted in a 3-bed, 3.5-bath abode that covers three floors, one below grade. Brilliant white walls contrast beautifully with rich wood on the floors and on the dramatically pitched ceilings. The open floor plan of the great-room-style main living space is lined with windows that welcome the sunlight. Shorter walls and steeply pitched ceilings create the sense of a classic attic in upstairs bedrooms. Inspired by nostalgia, a loft and bunkbeds were added in one of the upper bedrooms. Air sealed and well-insulated, the home has optimum energy efficiency. Every cottage needs a yard for lounging and recreation and this one is no exception. Artificial turf offers the lushness of a lawn sans the need for water. And the home melds nicely with its charming Carmel neighborhood.
