Everything You Wanted to Know About Passive House in One Convenient Spot
In this series, we’ll not only share reviews of books, we’ll also take a look at websites, newsletters, articles and other media that shed a bright light (LED, of course) on ways to turn the tide of climate change, promote a carbon-free future by going all electric, embracing renewable energy sources, and more.
Today’s recommendation is the Passive House Accelerator website where you will find everything you need to know to understand and appreciate the many benefits of Passive House all in one place. The site opens up the world of the Passive House movement and affords myriad ways to learn, explore, participate and act.
Passive House Accelerator was founded in 2019 by New York-based architect Michael Ingui, as a catalyst for zero carbon building. The About Us section of their website provides a lot more detail on their purpose, but here are a few clips: “Cultivate a collaborative platform for sharing innovation and thought leadership in Passive House design and construction.” “Convene practitioners, institutions, manufacturers, and anyone concerned about buildings and climate change to dive into the details of creating better buildings.” And my personal favorite—“We are a place for Passive House and zero carbon building people and organizations to come together, share lessons learned, dream up cool new ideas, and try them out. While the challenge of climate change is daunting and time is short, we are driven by an optimism and conviction that a rapid and equitable transformation to zero carbon buildings can happen when we share and learn from one another and when we all row in the same general direction.”
Passive House 101 takes you through an intro to Passive House as well as its benefits, standards, design principles and Passive House retrofits. It’s an informative overview that provides a foundation for further exploration of the design and building standard that’s being adopted by cities, states and countries around the globe. And, The United Nations International Panel on Climate Change embraces it as “the minimum building standard” to reduce carbon emissions in the built environment. That says a lot.
