Elegant Carmel Tudor

The double lot, rare for quaint Carmel, affords ample space for this gracious Tudor home and guesthouse. The original structure was taken down and the new buildings strategically sited to form a charming courtyard, and achieve the owners’ vision. The natural stone of the exterior, surrounded by native oaks, lends old world sensibility. In keeping with its location, the home features curved elements that give it a storybook cottage feel. We designed the Rumford fireplace with angled sidewalls to reflect warmth into the room and opted for radiant heat, enhancing energy efficiency and comfort. The simplicity of plaster walls and ceilings highlights the rich natural wood of the flooring, cabinetry, beams, doors and windows. Divided light French doors and copious windows brighten the entry and coax in the sunshine. Special touches like the delicate iron railing along the dramatic staircase and the beautifully laid stone entryway complete the picture of time-honored tranquility.
